Hello!
Who are we?
We are Kaiju Gaming Lounge! We consist of Aaron Wilcox, Cassandra Grondin, Christopher Randles, and Karl Rohr. We are a group of individuals that are looking to open a premium gaming experience in Orlando Florida. Between the four of us we have over 40 years of cumulative experience in the friendly local game store industry. Out of those 40 plus years we have over 10 years of community building and tournament organizing experience for various games.
Games we plan on supporting?
The short answer? Everything. If there's a community for it, we will help support the community. If there are a few members of a community who are looking for cards, miniatures, and games we will help you get it. Initially we are planning on the following in no particular order:
Magic the Gathering
Flesh and Blood
Pokemon
Digimon
Yu-gi-oh!
Dragon Ball Super
Cardfight Vanguard
Warhammer: 40K
Age of Sigmar
Infinity
Conquest
Kings of War
X-wing
Armada
Legion
Warmachine/Hordes
Marvel: Crisis Protocol
We are also looking at hosting more than just analog gaming, we have been in contact with various video game communities that are looking for space to host competitions or just come in, relax, and play some games. We plan on having the current gen consoles in store with several tv's and couches.
Where do we plan on opening shop?
We currently have our minds set on a location in front of the Epic Theater near the Orlando airport. It's the former T-Mobile. We're looking at roughly 2460 square feet and we have big plans for it. We can comfortably fit around 30-32 wargamers in the shop without major rearranging of our floor plans and we can comfortably seat around 72 card game players (Those are two separate floor plans). Those numbers are easily expanded however.
What makes us different?
We will be having a subscription based model for our store. There will be a monthly cost that nets the subscriber a ton of benefits, we're still working it out so this is subject to change, but an additional percentage off of sealed products (think booster boxes, booster packs, wargaming kits, etc) a percentage off of singles for the card games, $1 off snacks and drinks to a minimum cost of $1, invites to exclusive member only events, (a New Phyrexian draft as an example), discounted event pricing on planned events, unlimited bottled water, and there's a ton more in the works. If a subscription is not what you're looking for that's alright, if you're coming in for a tournament you can just pay your registration fee for the event and hang out all day, another option is $5 to get in the door which also gives you a snack and a drink up to a certain value.
We will also be utilizing a loyalty system that is through Square (our point of sale) and CashApp. For every $10 you spend you'll get a point. Points will never expire and there will be multiple cash out options for those points. 1 point will get you in the door if you don't have a subscription, 2 points will get you and up to 4 friends in the door if you don't have a subscription or they don't, we're still working on more tiers but we're talking about redeeming points for x months of subscription or gifting subscription.
We will also have a maker space. Currently as of this writing we have 2 Ender 3 Pro's, 1 Ender 5 Plus, and a Glowforge Plus. We're talking about adding to our maker space with a few more 3D printers, and a UV printer. Something we're talking about is allowing subscribers who want something 3D printed to pay for the material and provide us with a file and we'll optimize the file for our printers and get it printed.
Let's talk about our snack and drink selection. We plan on stocking what you would normally find in a game store in Orlando but we're also talking about expanding that selection beyond the norm. Paqui chips, all sorts of premium cups of ramen, Ramune, and various other imported snacks and drinks.
We will be using Facebook and Twitter regularly, and other platforms if we feel they are a good fit for our store. I will be maintaining the Discord servers that I have made for CCG2 and I'll still be working with them, but the servers will be utilized in a way that benefits both stores. We are considering a streaming setup for top tables for card games and war games. There might even be a podcast for wargaming!
Where are we at in the process?
We have several of the initial steps complete. We have our EIN, LLC, business accounts set up. We have been talking with banks and independent investors about our ideas and we've accumulated a bit of a backing. We're currently finishing up an in depth business plan to take to banks to apply for loans so we can ideally pay our rent a year in advance and possibly negotiate the asking rent price down because of that. We've completed break even analysis', calculated our projected monthly costs. We've been talking to several distributors, Wizards of the Coast, Para-Bellum, Games Workshop among others to have a head start in having our store set up right at our soft open and the grand opening. We also have our entire line up of furnishings, electronics, and our initial product line up calculated and ready to purchase the moment we have our location secured. We have several artists and designers working with us to make a unified brand with several assets for various uses.
What do we still have to do?
There is still a ton that we need to finish. Like I mentioned earlier we need to finish our business plan write up. We have a few sections left before it's ready to present. After finishing that we will be seeking any other individual that would have an interest in investing a large amount, and we will be doing a crowdfunding campaign to make sure we are set for a while to get the doors open and keep them open. We need to secure the location. Once the location is secured we can get our retailer/reseller license and really start working with Wizards of the Coast to acquire WPN Premium on top of setting up our distributor accounts.
What are the planned changes for the space we want?
If we secure the suite we're looking at, we still need the blueprints for the suite and we need to get those delivered to our project manager to make a plan of action on how we are going to remodel the store. We have two walls that we are going to remove, which will create a gap in the floor and the ceiling. The floor will hopefully be redone to optimize location and spacing of the 30 plus electrical and ethernet outlets that currently exist in the wall we are knocking down. The ceiling is a drop ceiling that will hopefully be able to still be used but if not replaced as we are also talking about redoing some of the lighting for it all to be uniform. We will also be adding a wall to make a supply room.
What's coming next?
I'll be updating ideally weekly and when something major happens to keep everyone in the loop. A road map will be made and some sneak peaks of our crowdfunding campaign reward tiers. We will also be showing off some of the terrain we're printing.
Nice! Looking forward to everything coming together!
